Teen fiction is fab

March 21, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s been a wee while since I last blogged but life’s been pretty darn hectic.

I’ve been reading some teen books lately. I’ve always liked ALL types of books and naturally read teen book after teen book when I was, like, a TEEN! But have mainly tried to be all grown up and read adult books in my adulthood (hmmm, what an odd paragraph!).

However, I recently borrowed an old fave of mine, Forever by Judy Blume. It’s a teen classic and reading it reminded me of just how darn GOOD teen books are so am gonna try to read more of them!

It also made me re-think my writing. Maybe I’m targetting the wrong market (am making out that I’ve actually sent any of my work out which I haven’t. What I mean is, if I targetted my work at a different market, mebbe I will write that elusive novel?). Maybe there’s something to be said for writing for teens. Sure, it’s a harsher world – less shelf space for teen fiction. But I’ve always said I still feel like a 14 year old and my writing style is naturally inclined to teen-speak OMG (see what I did there?!) so mebbe it’s worth a shot?

BTW, the apocolyptic chick lit novel is struggling. I adore writing, you all know that, so the fact that I’m not writing this novel as much as I ought to speaks volumes, right?

Anyway, gotta go. x
